About Us
Our Mission
Cost to Charge exists to answer one question every U.S. driver asks before going electric: "What will this actually cost me?" Not a national average. Not a manufacturer estimate. Your cost - based on where you live, what you drive, and how you charge.
We built this site because that answer was surprisingly hard to find. Most EV resources either oversimplify the math or bury it in technical jargon. We wanted something better: a calculator-first tool that gives real, location-specific numbers without the hype.
Who We Are
Cost to Charge is an independent publication operated by a small U.S.-based team with a background in energy data and consumer technology. We launched in February 2026 with one goal - make EV charging costs as easy to understand as a gas station receipt.
We are not affiliated with any automaker, charging network, or utility company. Our estimates are built on public datasets and transparent assumptions, not sponsored results.
What We Publish
We focus on four things: ZIP-based charging cost estimates, state and city electricity-rate comparisons, vehicle-specific charging cost breakdowns, and charging infrastructure context for drivers planning a switch or a move.
For a full breakdown of how we calculate costs, see our Data Sources & Methodology.
Our Data Approach
We combine public datasets from the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the EPA, and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory with standardized modeling assumptions. Electricity rates are refreshed monthly. Vehicle efficiency figures are updated when manufacturers publish new data.
Our estimates are designed to be directionally accurate and consistently comparable - not a substitute for your actual utility bill or a tax advisor's guidance.
Editorial Independence
Advertising relationships, where present, do not influence how we calculate or present costs. We do not accept payment to favor specific vehicles, charging networks, or utility providers. If we get something wrong, we want to know - use the Contact page to flag any data issue and include the page URL.
